My pal Josie stopped in on her way thru town... so I took her picture... cuz that's what I do! Same specs as Kaylee's shoot... I had the stuff here so I figured I'd take advantage...

Some new stuff...

These are of my friend Kaylee... a registered massage therapist. The spa she works for now needed a photo for their web site... and this is the result! Shot in my living room, with my D300, 24-70 f/2.8 lens and the Profoto Compact 300R studio strobe... with softbox... for those wondering!

FIRE I say!!!

Ok last for today was a shoot I did at the Government Conference Centre in Ottawa. The group that manages it came to us to do some new promotional material, I pitched the idea of doing some standard architectural shots, plus doing spherical panoramas for their web site. I'm still experimenting with HDR images when doing architectural shots... I've still got a ways to go, I don't feel like I'm getting consistently good results. I think I'm trying to capture too much detail in a single image. Ok so here are some HDR's... I'll up some panos when I get the chance.

Oh, right... some history on the GCC first...

It was the old train station in Ottawa, right across the road from the Chateau Laurier. They kept the building basically intact, which is really cool. They have old photos of the building all over it too... really interesting stuff. It's amazing to see how the downtown has changed in Ottawa even over the last 50 years. Ok enough geekery! Here are the shots...

I'm on FIRE!!

Ok so a guy who used to work in Comms asked me to take shots of his team... single light, very dramatic lighting. I thought that would be really cool so we had some fun with it. Everyone wore black and I shot against a black backdrop to add to the "drama". Clearly I'm a drama queen. Or something... This also gave me an excuse to use the shitty little softbox I bought like 2 years ago and thought was completely useless. Your tax dollars hard at work...

NEXT!

Ok so my co-worker Carole asked me to do some shots of her grandchildren. So who am I to turn down some more portfolio-building?? Super cute kids, and they were extremely cooperative too! I got about 60 shots, but took some out to do some nice editing... the rest will come eventually!

I've been really digging shooting high-key stuff in front of the white background paper. I still love shooting on black with more dramatic lighting... I think it's more my style, but this type of shot is really good with the right subjects.

Enjoy!

Now we're cookin with gas!

Ok here's a few of a Director I used to work with. Super cool guy, he needed some shots for a publication or something like that. I really don't pay attention to what they want or need these shots for, I mostly just try to keep myself from screwing them up... then move forward from there!

Moving right along...

Ok next up was a shoot I did for a real estate agent here in Ottawa. Shot it in the studio at work, but was a favour for a guy I work with who was doing this dude's web site. Nice guy, pretty photogenic. Says he'll distribute my business card to all his real estate pals. Cha-ching!

Time to play catch-up...

Ok so ya, I haven't posted in ages. Breakup, move, subsequent depression, deportation to lesser known African country, incarceration, disembowelment, and eventually death have led to me being somewhat negligent.

We'll lead off my triumphant comeback with a photo shoot I did at work on March 11th for the Office of the Chief Ombudsman. It's for their Annual Report. I haven't finished editing yet, so I'll post a few of the ones I have actually edited. Shot at the Museum of Civilaztion in Gatineau... they chose the location to have the Parliament Buildings in the background. Good call, adds some interest to the photos.

Sunday Panorama Shooting! Whee!

Ok so I’ve been learning to shoot spherical panoramas for work…. it’s tres cool, so I’ve taken it upon myself to give it a whirl on my own too.  Feast your eyes on some panos that I shot last Sunday.  I shot some HDR stuff that day too, but it takes ages to process, so I’ll post those later.

So, click on the image and it will link to the panos.  Click and drag in the image window to look around.  Oh, give it a minute to load, my web server is painfully slow at times.  You’ll know it’s loaded when there’s no black and white portions left.

Enjoy!

Some hockey shots

I've been working on weekends for a company that shoots minor tournaments in the Ottawa area. It's a lot of fun and the extra bit of cash is nice. Here's some samples of my handywork. Enjoy!

Mr. Edward Jones

Here's Ed, Lisa's (well, actually he's sorta everyone's) cat. He's quite talkative and not a big fan of staying still for photos. Yes, I realize that everyone takes pictures of their cats and posts them online, but none of them are of Eddie, so eat that!

(In trying to clean up the code I lost 2 of the images… to be posted later!)

Vice Family - January 3rd, 2009

Ok here's some selections from the first (and currently only) family shoot from 2009. I'm reasonably happy with the results, although I find it really difficult to compensate for my surroundings in client's homes. I think I'm getting spoiled by having a studio with top o' the line lighting at work. However, it's a good exercise in thinking on my feet. All that being said, I think it's a little too flatly lit, could have been a bit more dramatic, but it was tough with all the ambient light. Still learning!
